I started out a complete newbie with 35mm — confused by exposure, metering, all the principles that go into a single frame, with no screen to check my work against. But somewhere in that confusion I found the part I actually loved: film doesn't let you chimp the back of the camera, delete a shot, or retake it on the spot the way a digital camera does. It forces you to slow down, get the vibe, and take the moment rather than chase it. You forget the shot the second you take it — and by the time the roll comes back developed, the memory has had time to breathe, so it feels less like reviewing photos and more like living the moment again.

FilmCollects exists because that first roll shouldn't be so confusing. I built this platform to make film — the stocks, the specs, the small details that used to take me hours of scattered searching to piece together — simple and easy to understand, whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or you've been shooting for years.
